Shades of Ireland

I don't like Bono. Not that guy who tried to ski into Ents but the guy who likes to prance around onstage living a delicate balance between being a champion for rights and and honour and the living embodiment of a corporation masquerading as a musical act. I used to like his band about a million years ago when their musial formula wasn't quite so transparent but now I just cringe whenever I see the man.

It's the shades, I think. I always get a little up in arms when I see people indoors walking around with sunglasses on as if they are in posession of some secret bit of knowledge I don't have. THE SUN IS ABOUT TO BUST THROUGH THE ROOF! It's one thing to hide the welts of spousal abuse and another to find yourself too cool for the room. Oh, and you blind people, I'm tired of your bullshit!

Bono comes across as a very beloved, somewhat talented hypocrite. I've read where he talks about not being able to have a private life and I wonder, "Hmmmm, if you took his shades off no one would know who the fuck he is."

I'm not going to rip the music of U2. I'll just say I haven't liked it since Rattle and Hum aside from a tune here or there. Plus, no one on Earth can rip them better than Henry Rollins did here so why try? What bothers me is how Bono betrays his incredible power and responsibility in his little foibles in the name of image and glamour when he seems to be on point politically.

From here down on his Wikipedia quote page, the man says some pretty interesting things that tell me he's the kind of person who is learned and of importance, but the duality of Bono is somewhat of a Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker situation, well if Anakin were ever a likable character worth following the story of.

Bono, do me a favour. Lose the shades. Put the hair in a hat or ponytail. Stop posing. You have much good in you, isn't about time you let the Rock Star bullshit take a nap?
